Finally making the big move

Elvis, Dave and I are getting ready for our greatest adventure yet...we are moving to the West Coast to start a new life together in Los Angeles!

We are currently jobless, homeless and living with my parents in Connecticut but couldn't be happier and more excited for this change.  We've been planning a road trip cross-country partially because I got nervous when I read this New York Times article about Elvis not being able to fly but mostly because we thought it would be a blast to drive 3,000 miles with a French Bulldog in the backseat...

We are hitting the road this Saturday and making stops in Virginia, Nashville, Memphis (so Elvis can visit Graceland of course), Oklahoma City, Santa Fe, the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, among other places.

To his credit, Dave has really done most of the planning but we've discovered that travelling with a pet can be difficult and really limits your hotel options.  This website called Bring Fido turned out to be very helpful but in most cases we still needed to call to confirm the hotel's policy.

The most pet friendly hotel chain we found is Choice Hotels (which includes Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and some other very high class establishments).  However, even these more budget-conscious hotels will charge a small fee to have a pet in your room.  Some of the bigger chains and hotels in larger cities seem to charge higher fees ranging from $50-$200 per night.  So far on the higher end we've found that the Trump hotels and the Westins are happy to allow your dog to stay if you pay the fee.  Luckily for us we were able to find a place to stay in each city were going to so Elvis can sleep in comfort...as for us, we'll have to see.

Stay tuned for updates from the road....

  1. We are looking forward to reading Laurens blog about Elvis and their trip. We want to thank Lauren for sharing her blog with us. We wish that we were able to see Elvis and his mom and dad before they started their road trip to L.A. but we were busy having puppies. I hope that all of my followers on facebook join Lauren, Dave and Elvis on their trip across country. , Tammy @ Frenchies of Mystic
